Research assistant opportunity:

Work with Professor Dr. Erica Plambeck from Stanford Graduate School of Business, Assistant Professor Dr. Amrita Kundu from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, and Postdoctoral Scholar Dr. Moogdho Mim Mahzab from the Woods Institute for the Environment, Stanford University.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in cutting-edge quantitative social science and/or graduate work in economics. The research assistant will work directly with Erica Plambeck, The Charles A. Holloway Professor of Operations, Information & Technology at Stanford Graduate School of Business, Dr. Amrita Kundu, Assistant Professor at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, and Dr. Moogdho Mim Mahzab, Postdoctoral Scholar at the Woods Institute for the Environment, Stanford University, and will learn about coding, data collection, and data cleaning from a world-class research team. The research assistant will learn how to handle data and code systematically, econometric methods, how to visualize and present quantitative research results, and how research papers in economics are developed and written.

The research assistant would be hired through the ARCED Foundation (https://arced.foundation) and will be working out of our office in Mirpur DOHS.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data related to research on the environmental impact of lead acid batteries, public health and business model experiment.
  • Implement field experiments (Randomized Controlled Trials) and large-scale data collection efforts
  • Create visualizations of research results
  • Read and summarize research papers
  • Assist in administrative tasks related to the research process
  • Required skills and interests
  • A genuine interest in doing quantitative social science research in economics or related fields.If you do not have this interest, you will not enjoy the work and will not find the skills you learn on the job useful
  • At least intermediate Stata or R coding skills and experience
  • ODK, KoBoToolBox, or SurveyCTO XLSForm coding experience
  • Good English and Bengali written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Economics/Statistics/Computer science/Engineering or any quantitative field of study
  • Desired skills and interests (these are a plus but not required)
  • An interest in political economy, development economics, public health, environmental impact, supply chain and business models
  • LaTex coding experience
  • Experience with GIS software or GIS analysis and mapping using Stata or R or Python
  • Knowledge of econometrics and economic models
  • Experience with web scraping and/or coding in python or other languages
  • Time period

    The Research Assistant (RA) should be able to start as soon as possible but no later than March 20, 2023. If you are not able to start by March 20, 2023, please indicate this in your application, we may still consider you for future positions starting at a later date. The work will start with a 3 months probation period after which it will be turned into a permanent position.

    Mirpur DOHS, Dhaka
    Depending on project needs you may also make field visits to other parts of Bangladesh.

    Salary
    BDT 60,000 to BDT 80,000
