Monia Tomasella

PhD Student in Economics

Monia Tomasella is a PhD student in Economics at Stanford University, specializing in development economics with a focus on barriers to female labor force participation and the evolution of gender norms in historical perspective. She holds an MSc and BSc in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, Milan, where she graduated with highest honors. Monia has extensive research experience across multiple international institutions, including Harvard Business School, BRAC University in Bangladesh, the International Growth Center, and BRAC Uganda, with projects spanning migration, gender and child health, SME productivity, and educational poverty. She has combined rigorous data analysis with field-based coordination in these projects. She is fluent in Italian and English, and is skilled in statistical and survey software, including Stata, Python, and QGIS.
